AMLE School of Distinction

Phoenix Middle School has been recognized as a School of Distinction by the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE), a national organization dedicated to advancing best practices in middle grades education.

This prestigious designation honors a select group of schools across the country that demonstrate excellence in implementing research-based practices that support the academic success, well-being, and development of young adolescents.  Since 2022, AMLE has recognized 64 Schools of Distinction nationwide and 3 in Ohio (including Phoenix).

What Is an AMLE School of Distinction?

The AMLE Schools of Distinction program recognizes middle schools that exemplify the Essential Attributes of Successful Middle Schools, as outlined in The Successful Middle School: This We Believe®.

Schools earning this distinction demonstrate:

• A strong focus on the whole child
• Instruction that is developmentally responsive
• A commitment to equitable and inclusive practices
• Structures that prioritize student voice, agency, and belonging
• A culture grounded in meaningful relationships and high expectations

Recognition is based on a comprehensive application and review process that examines school philosophy, instructional practices, culture, leadership, and alignment with middle-level research.
